RippleUX 2018 is an inaugural national coding and robotics competition jointly organized by ripplecreate, Nanyang Polytechnic and Uavionics Society of Nanyang Technological University.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Unmanned Vehicles and Artificial Intelligence”. There are categories for primary, secondary and tertiary level to compete in innovative challenges. This prestigious competition also include invited international teams from around the world.

RippleUX strives to be the premier competition platform to promote STEM education in Singapore and beyond.

Zone 1: Intelligent Robots

Primary School Category:

Participants are required to build and code a smart vehicle to overcome tasks and challenges in an arena circuit.

Teams are required to use line tracing algorithm, ultra-sound distance sensing and servo motor control to solve problem in the arena.

Recommended Platform:

mBot

Micro:Bit robotic vehicles

Lego EV3

Arduino based robots

Secondary School Category:

Participants are required to build and code a smart vehicle to overcome tasks and challenges in an arena circuit.

Teams are required to use colour sensors, precise motion control, line tracing algorithm, ultra-sound distance sensing and servo motor control to solve challenging problems in the arena.

Recommended Platform:

mBot

Micro:Bit robotic vehicles

Lego EV3

Arduino based robots

Tertiary School Category:

Participants will be trained by Nanyang Technology University to learn more about unmanned vehicles.

Teams are required to use robotic vehicles and RFID technology to compete a series of challenges

Recommended Platform: NTU UAVionic Competition Pack or any other robotics platforms.

Zone 2: Game Design with Machine Learning

Primary School Category:

Participants are required to design a computer game or program that incorporates elements of machine learning.

Participants will be trained by Nanyang Polytechnic how to teach their Scratch game projects to use cameras to recognize objects and images.

Recommended Platform:

Scratch

mBlock 5

Secondary School Category:

Participants are required to design a computer game or program that incorporates elements of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Participant will be trained by Nanyang Polytechnics how to teach their Scratch game projects to use cameras to recognize objects and images.

Recommended Platform:

Scratch

mBlock 5

Aside from the recommended, any other platforms may be used.
